Jhelik Shines with Match-Winning Half-Century as Bangladesh Defeat Pakistan in ICC Women’s World Cup OpenerOpener Rubaiya Haider Jhelik made a remarkable WODI debut, scoring a match-winning half-century as Bangladesh secured a seven-wicket victory over Pakistan in their opening ICC Women’s World Cup match in Colombo on Thursday.

Bangladesh’s bowlers dominated from the start, with pacer Marufa Akter taking two early wickets in the first over, dismissing Omaima Sohail and Sidra Amin.
Spinners Shorna Akter (3-5) and Nahida Akter (2-19) then tightened the pressure, bowling out Pakistan for a low total of 129 runs in 38.3 overs after Pakistan chose to bat first.
In response, debutant Jhelik stole the show with an unbeaten 54 runs off 77 balls, including eight boundaries.
She built a crucial 62-run partnership for the third wicket with captain Nigar Sultana Joty, who scored 23 off 44 balls.
Sobhana Mostary’s brisk 24 off 19 balls, with six fours, helped Bangladesh reach the target comfortably at 131-3 in 31.1 overs, sealing a convincing win.
