The England squad finished their break in Noosa. Immediately, they start training again on Sunday. This training prepares them for the key Third Test in Adelaide.
The tourists flew from Brisbane on Saturday. They must win in Adelaide. Otherwise, a victory is vital to keep their Ashes hopes alive.
England spent four nights in Noosa, a beach town. They planned this trip early. Nevertheless, they kept the trip even though they lost the first two tests.
Captain Ben Stokes’ players got lots of attention. For instance, people saw them playing golf and relaxing. Furthermore, Stokes even took photos with local radio presenters.
Australian papers criticized the team’s rest. The Brisbane Courier Mail claimed England is “not even trying.” Similarly, the Daily Telegraph called it “Surfed and Turfed.”
Former Australian bowler Jason Gillespie supported the break. He told ABC radio: “It’s been Noosa, Noosa, Noosa. However, I see no problem with it.”
The break fed the ongoing argument about England’s tour preparation. Consequently, the series could end very fast. Many called this a big chance for England.
England’s loss in the second Test lengthened their winless run in Australia to 17 Tests. Therefore, if they lose in Adelaide, the series ends quickly.
Critics faulted the team for just one warm-up match before the first Test. Finally, Coach Brendon McCullum later said the team was “overprepared” for the second loss.
