A severe winter has gripped Bangladesh at the start of the new year, with weather experts predicting even harsher conditions over the next month. According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), up to five cold waves are expected to sweep across the country in January, with temperatures potentially dropping as low as 4°C in some regions.Long-term Forecast:The monthly outlook suggests that January will see 2–3 mild to moderate cold waves and 1–2 moderate to intense cold waves. While there is no threat of cyclones or depressions in the Bay of Bengal, normal rainfall is expected.Fog and Temperature Variations:Dense fog is predicted to blanket river basins and various parts of the country from midnight until morning, and in some cases, persisting until noon. This thick fog will reduce the gap between day and night temperatures, intensifying the feeling of biting cold.
