A milad and doa mahfil was held at the Gulshan Azad Mosque (Gulshan Central Mosque) on Friday (January 2, 2026), seeking eternal peace for the departed soul of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, the eldest son of the deceased leader, arrived at the mosque around 4:00 PM to participate in the special prayer session held after the Asr prayers. He was accompanied on the second floor of the mosque by his wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, and family members of his late younger brother, Arafat Rahman Koko—including his wife Shamila Rahman and their children.
The prayer session saw a heavy presence of the party’s top brass, including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, and Standing Committee members Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Nazrul Islam Khan, Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, and Dr. A.Z.M. Zahid Hossain.
Beyond party loyalists, thousands of common people from various walks of life gathered in and around the mosque to pay their final respects and offer prayers for the leader. This gathering coincides with the conclusion of the government-declared three-day national mourning period across the country.
