The 27th edition of the National Cricket League (NCL) began on Saturday, 25 October , with Barisal Division taking on hosts Khulna in the country’s premier first-class tournament.

However, the opening day witnessed an alarming moment when Barisal batter Fazle Mahmud Rabbi suddenly collapsed on the field due to the scorching heat.

The incident occurred during the first session of play, shortly after the 19th over, when Rabbi, who represented Bangladesh in two international matches seven years ago fell near the boundary line. His teammates and opponents quickly rushed to his aid, with Khulna batter Soumya Sarkar among the first to respond.

Medical personnel were immediately called in, and Rabbi was placed on a stretcher and taken toward an ambulance for initial assessment. Fortunately, he regained composure soon after and did not require hospitalization.

Match referee Akheruzzaman Khan confirmed the incident, saying, “Rabbi felt unwell due to the heat but is now doing fine. He was not taken to the hospital, and his condition is stable.

Further updates will be provided if necessary.”

The incident served as a reminder of the intense conditions players face early in the domestic season. Despite the scare, play resumed following a brief interruption, and the match continued as scheduled.

Fazle Mahmud, is one of the most experienced campaigners in domestic cricket and a key figure for Barisal Division. His quick recovery brought relief to teammates and the spectators.
