Shafiqul Alam, the Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, stated on Friday that the people of Bangladesh will never forgive the Awami League unless the party publicly acknowledges its past wrongdoings. He made these remarks while speaking to journalists after visiting the Nijnanduali Nitai Gourpal Seva Ashram in Magura.

Alam criticized the party’s stance over the last 17 months, noting that they have failed to show any remorse for their actions. “The Awami League has disqualified itself. Even after 17 months, they have not admitted their mistakes,” he said, adding that self-criticism is essential for political survival.
On Violence and Accountability: The Press Secretary raised serious concerns about the party’s violent history, questioning how a group that used armed cadres to attack students and civilians could expect a place in the political landscape. He accused the previous regime of establishing “fascism” under the guise of the spirit of the Liberation War and weaponizing state institutions like the Police and NSI by appointing party loyalists to oppress citizens.
Vow for Justice: Alam sent a clear message regarding accountability, declaring that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal will be brought back to the country to face trial. “Sheikh Hasina, Kamal, and others will be held accountable. They must face justice,” he asserted.
He concluded by noting that the environment for a free and fair election is being prepared, with candidates already beginning to campaign across the country.
