Sports Desk: Pakistan has achieved the glory of becoming the sole champion of the U19 Asia Cup for the first time in history. In the final held in Dubai, the successors of Imran Khan and Babar Azam brought home this historic trophy by defeating the tournament’s most successful team, India, by a massive margin of 191 runs.
The final match took place on Sunday (December 21) at the ICC Academy Ground in Dubai.
Match Overview: After losing the toss and being sent in to bat, the Pakistani youths built a mountain of runs in their allotted 50 overs. Bolstered by a blistering century from Sameer Minhas, they posted a daunting total of 347 runs. Chasing a target of nearly three hundred and fifty, the Indian batting lineup collapsed like a house of cards. The successors of Sachin and Kohli were bundled out for just 156 runs in 26.2 overs. As a result, the Pakistani youths left the field with a dominant 191-run victory.
History and Statistics: This was the 12th edition of the tournament, which began in 1989. In this competition, which has been held regularly since 2012, Pakistan had never won the title solely before. In the 2012 final, Pakistan was declared joint champion after the match against India ended in a tie.
India: 7-time sole champion and 1-time joint champion.
Bangladesh: Consecutive 2-time title winners.
Afghanistan: 1-time champion.
Pakistan: Tasted their first full or sole title win this time.
Second Success of the Year: This is the second major success this year for Pakistan’s age-level and ‘A’ teams. Earlier, Pakistan Shaheens won the title by defeating Bangladesh ‘A’ in the final of the Emerging Asia Cup.
