West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has commented that Indian citizens are being pushed into Bangladesh. Hinting at the Border Security Force (BSF), she said that what is being done along the India-Bangladesh border is “excessive.”
She made these remarks on Monday during a meeting with local officials in Cooch Behar, West Bengal. The Indian Express reported this news.
The Chief Minister of West Bengal said: “Indian citizens are being pushed into Bangladesh. I will tell the state police, don’t be afraid. Be a little active. We have to focus on naka (checking/search) operations.”
Alleging harassment of residents, Mamata said, “Cooch Behar is a border district. Law and order must be maintained at the border. No excess will be tolerated. Just because someone speaks Bengali does not mean they become a Bangladeshi. Bangladesh is a country, and West Bengal is a state.”
Mamata pointed out that many people in Uttar Pradesh speak Urdu, and Pakistanis also speak Urdu. There is also a Punjab in Pakistan, and there is Punjab in India. Residents on both sides speak Punjabi. The residents of Bengal are being harassed.
