At least eight people have been killed and dozens injured in a Russian ballistic missile strike on Ukraine’s southern port of Odesa, even as high-level peace negotiations are underway. The attack occurred late Friday (December 19, 2025) and intensified through Saturday, striking critical port infrastructure and civilian logistics.
According to the Ukrainian State Emergency Service, the missiles hit a facility where several people were trapped on a bus at the epicenter of the strike. The attack also triggered a massive fire in a parking lot for cargo trucks. Regional Governor Oleh Kiper confirmed that 27 others were wounded in the assault.
Diplomatic Context: This escalation comes at a sensitive time as a Kremlin envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, is currently in Florida, USA, to discuss a peace plan proposed by the Trump administration. While Russian officials described the talks in Miami as “constructive,” President Vladimir Putin recently reaffirmed his commitment to Russia’s original war aims, signaling a “maximalist” stance that complicates a potential ceasefire.
