7.2 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Japan Coast; 3-Meter Tsunami Warning Issued

A powerful earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale has struck Japan. Al Jazeera, citing the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), reported that the earthquake hit the coast on Monday night (December 8).

The Japan Meteorological Agency confirmed that Monday’s earthquake had a magnitude of 7.2. The agency stated that the earthquake occurred near the coasts of Aomori and Hokkaido, with its epicenter located 50 kilometers beneath the surface.

Tsunami Warning and Safety Checks
Following the powerful quake, a tsunami warning has been issued for waves up to three meters (10 feet) high along Japan’s northeast coast. Japan’s public broadcaster NHK reported that nuclear power plants in the region are currently undergoing safety checks.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or major damage from the earthquake. Residents in coastal areas have been urged to move quickly to safe locations.
