23 Killed in Devastating Nightclub Fire in North Goa; CM Pramod Sawant Orders Investigation

A devastating fire has ripped through a popular nightclub in North Goa. At least 23 people were killed in the blaze. Local officials and state Chief Minister Pramod Sawant confirmed the tragedy early Sunday (December 7).

The Press Trust of India (PTI) reported details from local government officials. The fire started late Saturday night at a club in the Arpora area. Several tourists were among those killed.

Chief Minister Vows Strict Action
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant confirmed the tragic event on X (formerly Twitter). “Today is a very painful day for all of Goa,” he wrote. “Twenty-three lives were lost in a major fire incident in Arpora.”

The Chief Minister visited the scene. He announced that he has ordered an investigation into the incident. He promised strict action. “Those who are found responsible will face severe legal action,” he stated.

Sawant later spoke to reporters at the site. He detailed the cause of death for the victims. Three people died from burn injuries. The remaining victims died from smoke inhalation. He confirmed that three to four tourists were among the deceased.

Gas Cylinder Suspected Cause
PTI, citing police sources, reported the possible cause of the fire. Authorities suspect a gas cylinder exploded at the club, identified as “Birch by Romeo Lane.” The fire began around midnight.

ANI news agency confirmed that the fire is now under control. Goa Director General of Police Alok Kumar told ANI that the bodies of all the deceased have been recovered.
