Fight for Final Group Standing

Initially, both teams are out of contention for a knockout spot. However, today’s clash remains important. It will decide their final group standings. Both Bangladesh and India have secured two points each. Bangladesh currently ranks third, and India ranks fourth. Therefore, both sides are still searching for their first win in this stage.

As part of their preparation, Bangladesh played Nepal recently. They managed a fighting 2-2 draw. Consequently, the team showed improved defensive structure and discipline. This was a notable gain after their 3-4 loss to Hong Kong.

Captain Jamal Bhuyan Speaks Out

Bangladesh skipper Jamal Bhuyan expressed optimism ahead of the match. He said, “We are all waiting for the match… It’ll be a good match, inshallah.” He confirmed the team prepared well and worked hard. Jamal added that they want to forget the late goal conceded against Nepal. Instead, they now focus only on the India match.

The captain confirmed the team’s confidence is high. They are determined to secure a victory. Jamal also noted that India is not in their best form now. Therefore, Bangladesh must use this opportunity.

When asked about his playing time, Jamal stated, “I am not sure whether I will play tomorrow or not, but I want to play. It feels bad if I can’t play.”

India’s Strategy and Chhetri’s Absence

Coach Khalid Jamil leads the Indian side. He said, “Bangladesh are a strong side with quality players.” He confirmed India is not taking them lightly. Regarding India’s recent poor results, Jamil stated, “We are thinking about tomorrow’s match.” He stressed the seriousness of the game, saying, “We want to win.”

Bangladesh is boosted by striker Hamza’s presence. Hamza has played six matches and scored four goals. Jamil confirmed his focus is on the entire Bangladesh squad, not just Hamza.

Also, the coaches discussed Sunil Chhetri. Chhetri retired last year. Coach Jamil did not include him this time. When asked about Chhetri, Jamil responded simply, “He has retired.”

Earlier, the first-leg qualifier between the two nations in Shillong ended in a goalless draw.
