Green Chilli Prices Surge Above Tk 300 Again Amid Supply ShortageThe price of green chillies has risen sharply once more, crossing Tk 300 per kilogram, with retail markets now charging around Tk 320 per kg.

Most consumers buy smaller quantities, typically 250 grams, which now costs them about Tk 75-80.Just five days ago, green chilli prices were between Tk 200-220 per kg, indicating a sudden increase of Tk 100-120 within a short period.

Prices had previously climbed above Tk 300 per kg in mid-August as well. This price hike was confirmed during visits on Thursday to various markets in the capital, including Mohammadpur Krishi Market, Town Hall Bazar, Kolmilata Bazar near Bijoy Sarani, and Karwan Bazar.

At Mohammadpur Krishi Market, not a single stall sold green chillies for less than Tk 320 per kg, with better quality chillies priced even higher.

Traders attributed the surge to recent heavy rains combined with reduced imports during the Puja holidays, causing a shortage in supply of green chillies and other vegetables.
