DHAKA, BANGLADESH — A moderate Magnitude 4.3 earthquake struck Dhaka this evening. Residents experienced renewed panic. This tremor is the latest in a series of seismic events. These quakes have rattled the capital over the past two days, causing widespread anxiety.

The earthquake was reported on Saturday evening at 6:06 PM local time (GMT +6).
Magnitude: 4.3 (reported by USGS and BMD).
Epicenter: The location was near Narsingdi, about 32 km northeast of Dhaka. The quake had a shallow depth, estimated at 10 km. Therefore, people felt it strongly across the capital and surrounding districts.
A Double Event: Reports suggest a smaller M3.7 tremor preceded the main 4.3 quake. This occurred just seconds earlier. Consequently, the combined effect intensified the jolt felt by residents.
Part of a Shaking Sequence
The Saturday evening tremor is the most significant aftershock. It follows the strong Magnitude 5.5 earthquake that rocked the region on Friday morning. That major quake tragically caused several fatalities and hundreds of injuries across Dhaka, Narsingdi, and surrounding areas.
Furthermore, the latest quake marks the third significant tremor in Dhaka in less than 48 hours. This increase in seismic activity fuels public concern over the central region’s vulnerability.
No Immediate Damage Reports
Authorities have not reported any immediate casualties or major structural collapses as of the latest updates. The Saturday evening quake did not cause major damage.
However, the tremor immediately caused thousands of residents to rush out of buildings. They moved onto the streets in fear. This shows the heightened state of alert since Friday’s more damaging event.
Emergency and damage assessment teams remain on standby across the city. Authorities are urging the public to stay calm. They ask everyone to follow established earthquake safety protocols.
