Acting Chairman of the BNP, Tarique Rahman, is setting foot on home soil after long 17 years. To accord him a reception, party activists and common people from across the country are gathering at the 300-feet road in Purbachal, braving the intense, biting winter cold.
A motorcade of activists traveling to join this reception was suddenly attacked on the Amtala road in Shibpur Upazila of Narsingdi district. The driver of the vehicle was seriously injured in the attack and was promptly admitted to the Shibpur Upazila Hospital.
The incident took place late Wednesday night, December 24. Immediately after the event, locals called the national emergency service 999 to seek police assistance. The police reached the spot and attempted to bring the situation under control.
It is noteworthy that Tarique Rahman is making a royal comeback after nearly a decade and a half. His flight has departed from London’s Heathrow Airport for Dhaka. The flight is scheduled to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Thursday (December 24) at approximately 11:45 AM. His flight left London Heathrow for Dhaka at 6:36 PM local time (12:36 AM Thursday, Dhaka time).
Aviation sources confirmed that Tarique Rahman is arriving on flight BG-202, a Boeing Dreamliner 787-900. The route is London Heathrow–Sylhet–Dhaka. Due to the presence of high-profile passengers, special coordination and security measures have been ensured for the flight operation.
