Maruf Chowdhury (35), the President of the Patharghata Upazila unit of Krishak Dal, has died in a road accident in Barguna.

The accident occurred around 3:00 PM on Saturday (December 27) in the Kalmegha Community Center area on the Patharghata-Barishal regional highway. He succumbed to his injuries later that evening at around 7:00 PM.
Maruf Chowdhury was the second son of Golam Mostafa Chowdhury, who is the President of the Patharghata Press Club and the Patharghata correspondent for the daily Jugantor.
The news was confirmed by Maruf’s uncle, Chowdhury Mohammad Faruk, the recently outgoing convener of the Upazila BNP.
According to local and family sources, Maruf had left home alone on his motorcycle after lunch. Shortly after, he met with the accident in the Kalmegha area. Locals rescued him in critical condition and took him to Patharghata Upazila Health Complex. As his condition worsened, he was referred to Barishal for advanced treatment. He passed away in the Bhandaria area of Pirojpur while being transported to Barishal.
Patharghata Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mong Chenla stated, “Patharghata Upazila Krishak Dal President Maruf Chowdhury has died in a road accident. However, the exact cause of the accident is not yet known.”
BNP Vice Chairman Nurul Islam Moni expressed deep grief over Maruf Chowdhury’s death. His passing has cast a shadow of mourning across political, journalistic, and social circles in Patharghata. Various quarters have offered prayers for his departed soul and extended deep condolences to the bereaved family.
