Rangpur Riders have brought back their former coach, Mickey Arthur. The South African will serve as the head coach of Rangpur in the new season of the BPL, which is set to begin on December 26 in Sylhet. He was also the coach of Rangpur last season, and under his guidance, the team achieved success in the 2024 Global Super League.
Arthur confirmed his return in a video message on Friday. He said, “I will be the coach of Rangpur in the BPL this year as well. I will remain as I was last year. We won the GSL a few years ago. I am looking forward to returning to Bangladesh. The team has a very good squad. The support from the fans was fantastic, and I look forward to seeing everyone again.”
Mickey Arthur’s experience is already quite rich. He has served as the coach for South Africa, Australia, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Pakistan won the 2017 Champions Trophy under his leadership.
With Arthur’s return, Rangpur has further strengthened their squad. Following the auction, they directly signed England batter Dawid Malan, West Indies all-rounder Kyle Mayers, and Pakistan all-rounders Faheem Ashraf and Iftikhar Ahmed.
Arthur will be the second foreign head coach in this year’s BPL. Previously, Dhaka Capitals appointed Toby Radford as coach. Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar will serve as their team mentor. The remaining four teams will be led by local coaches—Hannnan Sarkar will be the coach of Rajshahi Warriors, Khaled Mahmud will coach Noakhali Express, Chattogram Royals will be led by Mominul Haque, and Sylhet Titans will be coached by Sohel Islam.
