Kishoreganj BNP Uproar: Four Top Leaders Unite to Challenge Mazharul Nomination

Four top local leaders in Kishoreganj have united. They demand the cancellation of the nomination given to Mazharul Islam. Mazharul is the BNP-declared candidate and District BNP General Secretary for the Kishoreganj-1 (Sadar-Hosenpur) constituency.

The four leaders are: Rezaul Karim Khan Chunnu, Khaled Saifullah VP Sohel, Ruhul Amin, and Advocate Shariful Islam.

They led a massive protest rally and procession on Sunday afternoon (December 7). The demonstration took place in Kishoreganj town. Angry party activists and general supporters participated.

Surprise and Outrage Over Selection
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced 36 candidates on Thursday (December 5).

In the Kishoreganj-5 (Bajitpur-Nikli) constituency, party workers were happy. The nomination went to the highly popular Mujibur Rahman Iqbal. However, the announcement of Mazharul Islam for Kishoreganj-1 caused shock and outrage.

Accusations of Low Popularity and Lobbying
The protesting leaders strongly criticized the choice. They claim the constituency is highly important. It includes two municipalities and seventeen unions.

“His popularity is not even equal to a municipal commissioner’s,” leaders complained. “Dedicated party workers do not know him. He is also unknown to the general public.”

Speakers alleged that this nomination was orchestrated by a special ‘syndicate.’ The accusation points directly at the District BNP President, Md. Shariful Alam. He is also a Central Organizing Secretary for the BNP.

Tensions are high at the grassroots level. Activists claim Shariful Alam’s lobbying and a large financial transaction secured the nomination for his protégé, Mazharul Islam.

The Protest Rises
Party activity remained subdued on Friday. An event was scheduled for Begum Khaleda Zia’s recovery. However, deep resentment was building internally.

The situation erupted on Saturday afternoon. Kishoreganj Sadar Upazila BNP President Khaled Saifullah VP Sohel returned from Dhaka. Thousands of activists escorted him to the Old Stadium area. An emotional atmosphere quickly took hold.

‘Minus Formula’ Fears
During the rally, the leaders raised serious questions. “Khaleda Zia prepares for medical treatment abroad while facing a critical condition,” they stated. “Is a ‘minus formula’ now active inside the party?”

They questioned if the party was being ‘hijacked’ in the Zia family’s absence. The four unified leaders issued a strong warning. They threatened severe protests unless the “pocket committee” and this controversial nomination are immediately cancelled.
