Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expresses optimism that the 2026 national election will be held without complications.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Secretary General of the BNP, stated that Bangladesh is currently on the path to democratic transition. He expressed optimism, saying the election is expected to be held without any complications in the early or middle part of February 2026.

He made these remarks while responding to journalists’ questions during an exchange of views meeting with members of the Thakurgaon District Bar Association on Tuesday (November 25) at 4 PM.

On Law and Order and Election Readiness
Expressing satisfaction with the law and order situation, the BNP Secretary General said that the current state of law and order is quite suitable and good for the upcoming election. He believes there is no longer any situation that could potentially disrupt the election.

On Foreign Relations and Reforms
When asked about the party’s position on balancing relations with regional powers, including India, and resolving border disputes if the BNP comes to power, Mirza Fakhrul replied, “First, let us assume power. Decisions on this matter will be taken then.” Regarding the state structure reform outline and changes to the fundamental framework of the constitution, he stated, “When we are in power, these decisions will be made in Parliament.” He also noted that measures are being taken within the party to implement all necessary changes to regain the attraction of the younger generation toward the BNP.

On Internal Party Competition
Addressing the issue of multiple candidates and scattered conflicts in various constituencies surrounding the election, the BNP Secretary General commented, “BNP is a vast political party, like a flowing river. Since there are four to five candidates for each seat, some issues are inevitable. This has always occurred. There is no problem with this; rather, it proves that the BNP is a major political force.” He further stated that the BNP is not behind in election campaigning; in fact, it has been ahead for a long time.

Attendees
The meeting was attended by, among others, District BNP President Mirza Faisal Amin, General Secretary Poygam Ali, District Bar Association President Zainal Abedin, General Secretary Mridul, and other lawyers.
