Tasnim Jara Quits NCP, to Contest Dhaka-9 as Independent Candidate

Tasnim Jara, one of the most prominent faces and Senior Joint Member Secretary of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has resigned from the party. Following her resignation, rumors circulated about her joining the BNP; however, on Sunday (December 28) afternoon, Tasnim Jara herself dismissed such possibilities.

Speaking to the media, she clarified that she currently has no plans to join any other political party. Instead, she has decided to contest the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election as an independent candidate from the Dhaka-9 constituency (Khilgaon, Sabujbagh, and Mugda).

Announcing her candidacy on her verified Facebook page, Tasnim Jara stated that she has already begun the legal process of collecting signatures from one percent of the voters in her constituency. She noted that the signature collection drive, which started Sunday morning, has received a huge response from the public.

In the Dhaka-9 constituency, there are a total of 469,300 voters. To validate her independent nomination, she must submit a list of at least 4,693 supporting signatures by Monday.

In her Facebook post addressed to the residents of her area, she wrote: “Dear residents of Khilgaon, Sabujbagh, and Mugda—I am a daughter of your community. I was born and raised in Khilgaon. It was my dream to serve my people and the country from a political party platform. However, due to the current practical context, I have decided not to participate in the election as a candidate of any specific party or alliance.”

She added, “Whatever the circumstances, I am determined to keep my promise. Therefore, I will run as an independent candidate from Dhaka-9. My only reliance is on you. If you offer your affection and support based on my honesty, dedication, and the will to practice a new kind of politics, only then will I have the opportunity to serve you.”
