The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has responded to the intense reaction in the sports arena following the distasteful comments made by BCB Director Asif Akbar about football and footballers during a cricket conference. Four days after the Football Federation President, Tabith Awal, sent a letter to BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul demanding an explanation for the remarks, the BCB has replied to that letter.

Tabith Awal has received the letter signed by the BCB President. The letter provides an explanation regarding Asif Akbar’s comments, stating that although Asif is a BCB Director, he was introduced as a Councilor at the November 9 conference.

Excerpts from the Letter:
The letter explained: “The so-called comments that created controversy at the Bangladesh Cricket Conference were made by him as a Councilor representing the district, not as a BCB Director. To my knowledge, he probably made the statement out of personal frustration stemming from long-standing disappointment and complications regarding cricket activities and ground usage in his district.”

The BCB clarified that Asif’s comments do not reflect the official stance of the Board. The letter further stated: “The opinion of any individual never reflects the position of the Bangladesh Cricket Board. The statement made at the Bangladesh Cricket Conference is entirely his personal expression and should not be taken as the official statement of the Bangladesh Cricket Board.”

Expression of Regret:
BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul concluded the letter by expressing regret, writing: “I sincerely apologize if the said statement has caused any kind of hurt or confusion in the minds of the football family or fans.”
