Nationalist Chhatra Dal (JCD) Central General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir has called on Dhaka University (DU) to maintain a safe and conducive educational environment by removing all obstacles, including drug addicts, mentally unstable individuals, and unauthorized vendors.

In a Facebook post on Monday (27 October), Nasir urged the university administration and law enforcement to take immediate action to safeguard students and preserve the campus’s academic atmosphere.
“Ensuring the safety and learning environment for students at DU must be a top priority,” he said. “The administration and law enforcement should remove drug addicts, mentally unstable individuals, and people with serious illnesses from the campus.”
Nasir warned that such individuals pose security risks, especially to female students, and stressed the need for swift and effective measures.
He also condemned a recent incident involving some DUCSU leaders and the university treasurer. “The aggressive behavior toward the Treasurer is unacceptable and tarnishes the image of the students,” he said, noting that the Treasurer was an active organiser of the July Uprising. “Pressuring him in this way is unprofessional and unjustifiable.”
Addressing DUCSU leaders, Nasir said they should not misuse their positions to exert authority over teachers, urging a respectful and systematic approach in pursuing their demands.
The JCD leader also highlighted the importance of proper lighting across the campus. “Adequate lighting from sunset to sunrise is essential for campus safety,” he said.
Regarding floating and permanent shops on campus, Nasir called for a clear policy framework. “Many shops sell essential items to students, but sudden eviction without proper rules is unfair. The administration should create a specific policy and bring these shops under regulation to prevent ongoing chaos,” he added.
