Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has issued a statement expressing deep concern and anger over the terrorist attack on Sharif Osman Hadi, an independent candidate for the Dhaka-$8$ constituency and spokesperson for the Inqilab Mancha.
In a statement on Friday (December $12$), the party’s Secretary General, Miah Golam Parwar, said, “We express deep concern and anger over the terrorist attack on Osman Hadi. The incident of openly shooting at a prominent July warrior and MP candidate just one day after the election schedule was announced has seriously questioned the security situation during the election period. This clearly appears to be a blatant attempt to create fear.”
He further stated: “We strongly urge the law enforcement agencies to immediately identify and arrest the attackers, urgently review the CCTV footage of the scene, and ensure effective security measures for all candidates, party workers, and ordinary citizens during the Thirteenth National Parliament election. We call upon the government to thoroughly investigate whether this attack is a well-planned conspiracy by the defeated fascist forces to foil the election.”
The statement also mentioned, “Osman Hadi had stated in a social media post on November $13$ that he had received death threats via calls and texts from $30$ foreign numbers, and his mother, sister, and wife were also threatened with rape. It is clear to the countrymen that the administration failed to provide him security, which amounts to serious negligence in ensuring the safety of citizens’ lives and property. We condemn the administration’s avoidance of this responsibility.”
“Such a barbaric attack disrupts the country’s peaceful political environment and democratic process. We hope that the government and the administration will treat this incident with the utmost seriousness, swiftly arrest the perpetrators, bring them to justice, and ensure exemplary punishment. I also wish Sharif Osman Hadi a speedy recovery and express my sympathy to his family and colleagues.”
