Abdul Hannan Masud, Senior Joint Chief Coordinator of the National Citizens Party (NCP), will contest the parliamentary election for the Noakhali-6 (Hatia) constituency with the Shapla Koli (water lily bud) symbol. Akhter Hossain, the Member Secretary of the NCP, confirmed the matter.

In reaction after the nomination announcement, Abdul Hannan Masud said, “The Shapla symbol is a matter of pride for me. However, the trust and love of the people are more important than the symbol. My relationship with the people of Hatia is one of the heart, not of politics.”

The party published its list of 125 nominated candidates in the first phase on Wednesday morning (December 10). Out of the 6 constituencies in Noakhali, candidates for 3 have been finalized in the declared list. Among them, Abdul Hannan Masud will contest for the Noakhali-6 (Hatia) constituency with the Shapla Koli symbol.

The other two candidates among the three announced are Barrister Omar Faruq for the Noakhali-1 (Chatkhil-Sonaimuri) constituency and Advocate Humaira Noor for the Noakhali-5 (Companiganj-Kabirhat) constituency. However, candidates for Noakhali-2, 3, and 4 constituencies have not yet been announced.

Hannan Masud informed that he has been beside the helpless, underprivileged, and distressed people of Hatia for a long time. He has provided assistance to affected families during every disaster—cyclones, tidal surges, floods, and river erosion. He has undertaken various humanitarian initiatives, including providing medical treatment to patients deprived of healthcare, assisting poor students, and standing by people facing livelihood crises.

Hannan Masud identified river erosion as one of Hatia’s main crises. He said, “I have witnessed the pain of how many people lose their homes due to river erosion from up close. Therefore, this is not just an electoral pledge, but my personal commitment—to protect the people of Hatia from the fear of river erosion.” He also mentioned that he has been continuously following up on various demands, movements, and with government offices regarding this issue.

Regarding his political philosophy, Hannan Masud said, “Politics, to me, is not about position or title. It is a path to serving people. The people are my strength, my inspiration. I will uphold the dignity of the love they have given, until my last breath, Insha’Allah.”

He further added, “I will always remain dedicated to the development and welfare of the people of Hatia. I respect the public’s mandate. I believe that together, we can build a developed, safe, and prosperous Hatia.”
