Akhtar Hossain, Member-Secretary of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), stated that the people will reject those who refuse to accept the verdict of the referendum.

He made this comment on Saturday (November 15) at a seminar on young agricultural entrepreneurs held in Farmgate, Dhaka.

During his speech, Akhtar Hossain said, “Recently, the leaders of a certain party have taken a final stand against the referendum. They previously campaigned against the referendum and went against the people. Those who refuse to accept the referendum verdict are rejecting the people’s mandate. The people will also reject them.”

Questioning the transparency of the reform process, he added, “Many parties have created ambiguity regarding the ‘July Charter,’ which we view with suspicion. The reform process has been divided up ‘at the whim of the government,’ creating uncertainty about whether the July Charter will be implemented.”

Highlighting farmers’ rights, the NCP leader stated, “Some political parties are downplaying the rights of farmers in the shadow of the referendum. Both the referendum and farmers’ rights are equally important and interconnected.”

Akhtar Hossain alleged, “Under the Awami narrative of ‘Developed Bangladesh,’ farmers have long been cheated and trapped in a web of debt. In contrast, Awami League leaders have laundered the country’s money abroad. We hope that a policy-driven Bangladesh will be created by sustaining agriculture.”

Expressing frustration over the country’s ongoing law and order situation, he said, “Such violence and fighting even after August 5th has disappointed us.”

He further stated, “Agriculture must be brought into the mainstream instead of being treated as a separate sector. The NCP wants a farmer to be able to go to the parliament and speak for their own rights. Only by freeing agriculture from dominance can there be an agricultural revolution.”
