There was deep silence on the stage of the Tafsir Mahfil (religious gathering). Thousands of people present were listening attentively to the beloved speaker’s heartfelt sermon. Suddenly, while delivering his sermon, the speaker suffered a brain stroke and collapsed on the stage. He later died while undergoing treatment in the hospital.
The incident took place on Saturday night (December 6) in Char Balua village of Mahimagonj Union, Gobindaganj Upazila, Gaibandha.
The deceased Islamic speaker was Faridul Islam (35). He was the son of Khoka Mia from Khamar Gobindapur village in Lakshmipur Union, Gaibandha Sadar Upazila. He was also a religious teacher at Mahimagonj Ideal Academic School and the professional Imam of the local Ghoshpara Jame Mosque.
Relatives and locals stated that Faridul Islam began delivering his sermon as the third speaker at the Tafsir Mahfil organized by a Jame Mosque in Char Balua village on Saturday night (December 6). Shortly after beginning his speech, he suffered a brain stroke and collapsed on the stage. He was rescued and admitted first locally and later to a private hospital in Rangpur. He passed away on Monday morning (December 8) while undergoing treatment.
The deceased’s first Janaza (funeral prayer) was held at Mahimagonj Alia Madrasa field at 11:00 AM on Monday (December 8), and he was buried in the family graveyard after the second Janaza in Khamar Gobindapur village of Lakshmipur Union in the afternoon.
Mottalib Hossain Sarkar, the director of the school, confirmed the death and burial of Maulana Faridul Islam, who is survived by his only son, aged just two and a half years.
