DHAKA, BANGLADESH – Professor Mehdi Ahmed Ansary of the Department of Civil Engineering at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) has issued a serious warning, stating that the repeated occurrence of tremors in the same area could indicate a significant risk of a larger earthquake in the near future.

Professor Ansary suggested that a major earthquake could strike within the next four to five days following these recurrent smaller tremors.
The warning comes after a series of seismic events. Last Friday morning, a magnitude 5.7 earthquake was felt originating from Madhabdi in Narsingdi, tragically resulting in 10 fatalities. Since then, two more tremors were felt on Saturday—one in the morning and another in the evening—with epicenters reported in various locations across Narsingdi and Dhaka city.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Professor Ahmed Ansary stated that the frequent, repeated tremors in the same locality are a cause for concern and can serve as a precursor or early warning for a major seismic event.
