YANGON, November 23 — A 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar on Sunday, marking the second major seismic event in the region within a week and fueling concerns over increasing geological activity.

The quake occurred at 10:39 am Bangladesh time. Its origins were located in the Andaman Sea, and the tremor was also felt in Thailand.
Epicenter Details
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake’s epicenter was:
Location: About 267 kilometers west-southwest of Dawei city in Myanmar.
Depth: A relatively shallow 10 kilometers.
While the shallow depth can often lead to greater impact, no immediate major damage has been reported from the latest tremor.
Rising Regional Concern
This earthquake follows a pattern of recent seismic activity in the area, particularly concerning for Bangladesh and Myanmar:
Friday’s Quake: A stronger 5.7-magnitude quake hit Bangladesh on Friday, which resulted in the tragic deaths of at least 10 people.
Aftershocks: On Saturday, Bangladesh felt three mild aftershocks. India’s National Centre for Seismology (NCS) also recorded three mild tremors in Myanmar on the same day.
The repeated occurrences of moderate-to-strong earthquakes have prompted heightened awareness and calls for updated disaster preparedness in the densely populated region.
