Massive Explosion at Police Station in Jammu and Kashmir; 9 Killed, 29 Injured

At least nine people were killed and 29 others injured in a massive explosion that occurred during the examination of a large quantity of seized explosives at the Nowgam police station, near Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, India. The blast took place on Friday night.

According to NDTV reports, most of the deceased are police personnel and forensic team officials who were examining the explosives. Two officials from the Srinagar administration also lost their lives at the scene.

Police stated that the explosives, which were recently recovered from Faridabad, Haryana, had been brought to the Nowgam police station. The devastating explosion suddenly occurred while they were being tested and prepared for disposal.

The condition of many of the injured is critical. They were immediately admitted to the Indian Army’s 92 Base Hospital and the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS).

Following the incident, top police officials arrived at the Nowgam police station area and initiated an investigation. The entire area has been cordoned off, and authorities are working to ascertain the precise cause of the explosion.
