Kurigram Shivers as Temperature Hits 12°C; Dense Fog Disrupts Life

Severe winter has set in across Kurigram due to dense fog and chilling winds. The district’s minimum temperature was recorded at 12 degrees Celsius at 6 AM on Tuesday at the Rajarhat Meteorological Observatory.

The chilling wind and cold air seem to have arrived early in Kurigram, a northern district of the country. The intensity of the cold increases daily, marked by dense fog, cold winds, and low temperatures.

Subal Chandra Sarkar, the officer-in-charge of the Rajarhat Meteorological Observatory, confirmed the temperature to the media. “Today, Tuesday, the district recorded 12 degrees Celsius,” he stated.

Impact on Farmers and Relief Efforts
Farmers reported that it is currently the harvesting season for Aman paddy in their area. “The cold in the morning makes it very difficult to leave the house,” one farmer said. “But if we don’t work, the family won’t survive. So, we must go out to work.” They added that the dense fog and cold are disrupting their work.

Md. Abdul Matin, the District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer, informed the media about relief measures. He stated that a total of 54 lakh Taka (6 lakh Taka for each of the 9 sub-districts) has been allocated. Blankets are being purchased. These will be distributed to the cold-affected people based on a list
