The health condition of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia took a severe turn, forcing doctors to place her on ventilation support as her state was officially declared “very critical” since Sunday night. Speaking to the media outside Evercare Hospital in the capital on Monday, BNP Vice-Chairman Advocate Ahmed Aazam Khan delivered the grave update. “Since last night, Madam has gone into a very critical condition,” Aazam Khan stated. “She has been moved from the CCU to the ICU and then placed on ventilation, or life support. What I can say is that her condition is extremely critical.” The BNP has appealed for prayers from the entire nation, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation and acknowledging that all efforts now rest with the specialized medical team and divine intervention.
The 80-year-old political leader, who was admitted on November 23, continues to battle multiple severe complications simultaneously, including a liver-related crisis, reduced kidney function, and critical breathing difficulties stemming from a confirmed lung infection. Aazam Khan confirmed that the medical board managing her care has been significantly expanded to handle the complexity of her illness. Specialist physicians from the United States and the United Kingdom are actively involved, and a delegation of doctors from China has also joined the collaborative effort. This intensive international oversight underscores the gravity of her week-long hospitalization as physicians strive to stabilize her fragile condition.
