DHAKA – A Dhaka court is scheduled to deliver its verdict on December 1 in a long-running case concerning alleged corruption in the allocation of government plots, where the names of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, and her niece Tulip Siddiq were mentioned.

The case, which dates back over a decade, centers on accusations of irregularities and abuse of power in the allocation of plots by the National Housing Authority (NHA).
Allegations of Misallocation
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) initially filed the case during the caretaker government period, alleging that undue favoritism was shown in the allocation of land plots in Dhaka.
The Charges: The lawsuit specifically named several officials of the National Housing Authority (NHA) for misusing their authority to allocate plots to individuals who were allegedly ineligible, bypassing standard procedures.
Mention of VIPS: While the case primarily focuses on the NHA officials, the names of Sheikh Rehana and Tulip Siddiq were included in the investigation process as beneficiaries of the allocated plots. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s name was also mentioned in connection with the allocations made during her earlier tenure.
Legal Proceedings and Verdict Date
The proceedings have seen multiple twists, with several key figures being dropped from the case over the years. However, the trial against the remaining NHA officials proceeded.
The Court: The judgment will be delivered by the Special Judge’s Court of Dhaka.
December 1 Verdict: The court announced the fixed date of December 1 for the delivery of the verdict, following the conclusion of arguments from both the prosecution and the defense.
The verdict is highly anticipated as it concerns allegations of corruption touching upon prominent political figures, even though the current prosecution focuses on the administrative officials involved in the allocation process.
