BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi expressed doubts about Jamaat-e-Islami’s demand to hold a November referendum on the July Charter.

Rizvi suggested this move might be a strategy to delay the upcoming national election. He noted that most parties agreed the referendum should coincide with the parliamentary election to save time and costs.
Holding it separately in November, he said, would disrupt election preparations, causing confusion and delays.
Rizvi accused Jamaat of misleading people by using religion for political gain, comparing them to medieval priests promising heaven for votes.
He also claimed Jamaat spreads false religious propaganda online, exploiting faith for electoral advantage.
Rizvi stressed that such tactics harm both democracy and the country’s Islamic values.
He further alleged Jamaat’s opportunistic alliance with the ruling Awami League, accusing them of lacking genuine commitment to democracy.
Rizvi called on all pro-democracy parties to stay united and vigilant to ensure a free, fair election under the interim government.
