Massive preparations are underway in Barishal as over one lakh (100,000) leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) prepare to travel to Dhaka to welcome Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. After 17 years in exile, Tarique Rahman is scheduled to return to Bangladesh on December 25.

According to party sources:

  • Waterways: 5 launches will depart from Barishal city port on the night of December 24, while 10 additional launches have been organized for activists from the district’s 10 upazilas.

  • Roadways: At least 20 buses will leave from the Nathullabad bus terminal on the morning of December 25, accompanied by hundreds of smaller vehicles and private cars.

Zia Uddin Sikdar, Member Secretary of Barishal City BNP, stated, “Our political guardian is returning after a long struggle. The enthusiasm among our grassroots workers is unprecedented. We are ensuring that everyone reaches Dhaka safely and in an orderly manner.”
