7 Colleges Students Vow to Continue Protest Until Dhaka Central University Ordinance is Finalized

The protesting students of the seven government colleges remain firm on their demands. They state that the movement will continue until their demands are fulfilled. Today, Monday morning, more than two hundred students are carrying out a program behind the Shiksha Bhaban (Education Building), demanding the transformation of the seven colleges into a university.

At this time, they indicated that the next course of action would be decided after internal discussion. Simultaneously, they warned that the movement would continue until their demands are met.

A student participating in the protest said, “Our program is ongoing. We have been positioned here since last night. If there is no positive decision from the government, we will not back down from the movement.”

Another student named Sumaiya Tahmin said, “We have taken to the streets with logical demands. Our demands must be met, otherwise, we will not leave the streets.”

Yesterday (Sunday) morning, students from the seven government colleges marched from their respective campuses and took up positions at the Shiksha Bhaban intersection. Later, around noon, they moved to the road in front of the Shiksha Bhaban.

In the afternoon, they blockaded the High Court intersection. This halted traffic moving towards Press Club, Gulistan, Dhaka University, and the Secretariat via the High Court intersection.

Later, the students held a press conference. They announced that they would continue their sit-in protest until the ordinance for the central university involving the seven colleges is officially declared.
