Traffic Disrupted in Dhaka as Students Block Shahbag Intersection

Students from five Dhaka colleges have blocked the Shahbag intersection. They are demanding the cancellation of a new “Schooling Model” ordinance. This ordinance and a Ministry press release created uncertainty regarding the proposed Dhaka Central University.

The students started their blockade at the Shahbag intersection around 11:45 AM on Sunday.

The protest began after 11:00 AM. Higher secondary students from Dhaka College first gathered at the Science Lab intersection. Later, students from four other colleges joined them: Government Bangla College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Shaheed Suhrawardy Government College, and Begum Badrunnesa Government Women’s College. They marched together to block the Shahbag intersection.

As of now, traffic movement remains completely halted at the Shahbag intersection.
