Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman said on Thursday that there is no constitutional bar to contesting elections while holding public office.

He made the remark following the state’s hearing before the Appellate Division on the reinstatement of the caretaker government system.
Earlier, on Wednesday, Asaduzzaman announced his intention to contest the 13th National Parliamentary Election after resigning from attorney general post. He planned to run from the Jhenaidah-1 constituency as a candidate of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
“I have sought nomination, and I am optimistic about receiving it,” he said.
He added: “I am still serving as the attorney heneral. I will contest the election after resigning from the post. I will step down when the time comes.”
Notably, Asaduzzaman has already been actively campaigning in Jhenaidah-1 (Shailkupa) as a prospective BNP candidate, although the party has not yet officially announced its nominee for the seat.
