Own Correspondent: Tarique Rahman, Acting Chairman of the BNP, remarked that there is no alternative to ensuring the victory of the ‘sheaf of paddy’ (BNP’s electoral symbol) in the next election to save the country and the nation from destruction. He stated, “The first Bangladesh is my last Bangladesh, and Bangladesh comes first. No compromise. The country must be saved by making the sheaf of paddy victorious.”
He made these comments while virtually joining a discussion meeting titled ‘Program for the Plan of Nation Building,’ organized by the BNP at the Krishibid Institution Auditorium in Farmgate, Dhaka, on Wednesday afternoon (December 10) from London. The meeting was organized by the Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal and the Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal leaders.
Addressing the leaders and activists, Tarique Rahman said, “Your party has presented you with a straight-cut plan. Show me if there is any other political party in Bangladesh that has presented a plan like this? Only the BNP has presented this plan. Therefore, this is not the time to sit idle. You must descend into war. This war is for the people, for the country.”
He added, “The BNP has saved the country every time. If you look at history, you will see that every time, Shaheed Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia saved it. Now that responsibility is on your shoulders. You have to go from house to house and convince the people. Otherwise, this country and nation will be destroyed.”
The Acting Chairman clarified the BNP’s development philosophy if they return to state power. He said, “We will not go for any mega-projects, as they involve corruption. We will spend money on education, health, and human resource development.”
At this time, he announced that if the BNP comes to power, 1 million health workers will be recruited, 80 to 85 percent of whom will be women.
Tarique Rahman promised to introduce a ‘Family Card’ to make the women of the society economically self-reliant. Additionally, he mentioned launching a ‘Farmers Card’ for agricultural workers and a ‘Health Card’ for everyone. Regarding changes to the education system, he said, “We want to develop an education system where students can be proficient in a third language in addition to English.”
To resolve the suffocating situation of urban life, Tarique Rahman stated, “There are no playgrounds in the suffocating city. The Ministries of Education, Health, and Sports will work together all year round. We will acquire land at market price from every ward and create playgrounds.”
The meeting, presided over by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, was also attended by Joint Secretary General Habib-un Nabi Khan Sohel, Chairperson’s Advisor Dr. Ziauddin Haider, Acting Chairman’s Advisor Mahdi Amin, Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP Convener Aminul Haque, Juba Dal President Abdul Monaem Munna, Swechchasebak Dal President SM Jilani, and Krishak Dal President Agriculturist Hasan Zafir Tuhin, among others.
