A case has been filed regarding the stabbing murder of a mother and daughter inside their home in Mohammadpur, the capital. The case was filed last Monday night against the suspected domestic worker. However, no one involved in the murder has been arrested yet.
Jewel Rana, Additional Deputy Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Mohammadpur zone, stated that the husband of the deceased Laila Afroz, A Z M Azizul Islam, filed a case with the Mohammadpur Police Station as the plaintiff. He suspects the domestic worker for the murder of his wife and daughter. The girl had identified herself as Ayesha. Work is underway to identify and bring her under the purview of the law.
In the FIR, Azizul Islam wrote, “I reside in a house on Shahjahan Road. Four days prior, the accused (Ayesha) started working at my residence as a part-time domestic worker. On Monday morning around 7 AM, I left for my workplace in Uttara. While at work, I tried to contact my wife’s mobile phone multiple times but failed. Later, when I returned home around 11 AM, I found my wife lying dead with bloody stab wounds on her throat and various parts of her body, and my daughter was lying near the main gate in a seriously injured condition with a cut on the right side of her throat. My daughter was rescued and sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital via cleaner Md. Ashik. The attending doctor pronounced her dead upon arrival at the hospital.”
He further mentioned in the FIR that his daughter’s mobile phone, a laptop, gold ornaments, cash, and other valuable items (the exact amount could not be specified) were missing.
Police recovered the bloody bodies of the mother, Laila Afroz, and daughter, Nafisa Nawal Binte Aziz (15), from a flat in a multi-story building in Mohammadpur, the capital, on Monday morning. Police are searching for the domestic worker, Ayesha, who was hired four days ago, as the main suspect in the incident.
Police and morgue sources revealed that Laila had approximately 30 stab wounds on her body, while her daughter had six. They were primarily stabbed in the throat and shoulder. Police also stated that Nafisa was a ninth-grade student at Mohammadpur Preparatory School. Her father, M Z Azizul Islam, is a Physics teacher at Sunbeams School in Uttara.
Analysis of multiple CCTV footages of the building shows that Azizul Islam left for school around 7:00 AM. Subsequently, the domestic worker Ayesha entered the house wearing a burqa at 7:51 AM. She left the residence at 9:36 AM. Azizul Islam returned home around 11:30 AM and found the bloody, motionless bodies of his wife and daughter.
