Bail denied for Abul Sarkar, who made derogatory remarks about Allah and the Prophet.

The court has denied bail to Baul singer Abul Sarkar, who was arrested in Manikganj in a case filed under charges of religious insult.

SKM Tofael Hassan, the judge of the Manikganj District and Sessions Judge Court, delivered the ruling around noon on Monday (December 8).

At that time, several lawyers marched in the court premises demanding punishment for Abul Sarkar.

Zinnat Ali, the lawyer for Baul singer Abul Sarkar, stated that Abul Sarkar’s first bail hearing was held at the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on November 23. After that hearing, the judge denied his bail. Subsequently, an application for bail was filed with the District and Sessions Judge Court, in accordance with the criminal procedure code. The bail hearing for Baul singer Abul Sarkar was held at the District and Sessions Judge Court on Monday afternoon.

Participating in the bail hearing on behalf of the accused were 15 to 16 lawyers, including High Court lawyers Shahidul Islam, Zahir Ahmed, Md. Shafiq Uddin, and Manikganj Judge Court lawyers Zinnat Ali, Md. Sorhab Hossain, Mohiuddin Swapon, Kamrul Hasan Khokon, Helal Uddin Ahmed, and Fate Ibn Jhantu.

The Public Prosecutor, Nurtoz Alam Bahar, participated in the bail hearing on behalf of the state. After arguments from both sides, District and Sessions Judge Court judge SKM Tofael Hassan denied bail to Baul singer Abul Sarkar.

Defense lawyer Zinnat Ali said that if Abul Sarkar is proven guilty in court under section 295(A) of the country’s prevailing law, the maximum punishment is 2 years of imprisonment or a fine, or both, as the judge may decide.
