Chittagong University Holds Central and Hall Student Union Elections After 35 Years

After a long gap of 35 years, the central and hall student union elections have begun today at Chittagong University. Voting rights have been restored for over 27,500 students of the university. The election has created a festive atmosphere, with students showing great enthusiasm and excitement.

The voting will take place from 9 am to 4 pm Wednesday (October 15) across five faculty buildings within the university. Since the announcement of the election schedule, candidates have been actively campaigning via shuttle train, academic buildings, residential halls, and social media platforms.

The entire campus is decorated with posters, leaflets, banners, and manifestos to celebrate the election. A total of 27,517 voters are eligible to participate, including 16,084 male and 11,434 female students.

A total of 908 candidates are contesting in the elections—415 candidates for 26 central student union positions and 493 candidates for the hall councils. Among the central student union contenders, 48 are women and 366 are men. Additionally, 24 candidates have been elected uncontested.
