July Charter Signing Event, Schedule and Details

The charter signing ceremony will begin today (October 17) at 4:00 PM. The event will start with the national anthem followed by a moment of silence to honor the martyrs.

According to the National Unity Commission, the opening speech will be delivered by the commission’s Vice-Chairman, Professor Ali Riyaz.After that, representatives of political parties and commission members will sign the pledge section of the charter.

Finally, the chief advisor, Professor Muhammad Yunus, will sign the charter.The program will conclude with a speech by the chief advisor. Before the event formally starts, a documentary about the background of the July Charter will be shown.

Nearly three thousand guests from various sectors have been invited, including leaders of different political parties, families of martyrs from the July people’s uprising, distinguished citizens, military and civilian officials, journalists, and diplomats from different countries based in Dhaka.Among the political leaders, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman, and NCP convener Nahid Islam received invitations last night from members of the National Unity Commission.

The main ceremony will be held on the south plaza of the National Parliament (the stage will be placed midway on the stairs). Invited guests will be seated in the open area in front of the south plaza, while the general public can watch the ceremony from Manik Mia Avenue.The chief advisor of the July National Charter signing event has called for live broadcast coverage by all television and online media. He made this appeal in a message last night.

Yesterday evening at a press conference of the National Unity Commission, cultural advisor Mostafa Sarwar Faruqi spoke about event arrangements.He stated, “The biggest part of the event is the July Charter itself, because if it is implemented, it will bring a major transformation in political culture.”He also mentioned that during the signing event, a video about the background and future significance of the charter will be shown. Further work on the charter will continue over the next two months.
