BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the democracy transition process in Bangladesh through elections has the support of the whole world.
Mirza Fakhrul made these remarks to journalists last night Friday at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
He returned to the country on an Emirates Airlines flight from the United States.
In response to journalists’ questions at the airport terminal, Mirza Fakhrul said, “Our message is one: Now we want to return to democracy, and for the election to be held in February, we will prepare for the election as our leader Mr.Tarique Rahman has directed us.The whole world supports this democracy transition process. Especially, the support from the democratic world is fully present here.”
Asked about discussions with representatives of different countries at the United Nations General Assembly, Mirza Fakhrul said, “We have talked with all. Those who went, of course, they talked; that is natural.”
Regarding the UN visit, he said, “At the invitation of the Honorable Chief Advisor, we accompanied him to the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly. We fulfilled our responsibilities as much as we could. Our visit was successful. Bangladesh’s voice reached the world.Apart from the UN General Assembly sessions, the other meetings held were very beneficial for Bangladesh. Above all, it was good for democracy.”
Reacting to the incident of harassment after landing in New York airport, he said, “We do not take these seriously. This is a culture of the Awami League, creating such incidents.”
On September 23, Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus went to attend the 80th UN General Assembly. Mirza Fakhrul went to New York as his companion.
The Chief Advisor returned on October 2.The BNP Secretary General returned one day later after a party event in the United States.
Other members of the Chief Advisor’s delegation included BNP Acting Chairman’s Advisor Humayun Kabir, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Deputy Amir Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, NCP’s Secretary Akhtar Hossain, and Joint Convenor Tasnim Zara.
