Trump Cancels Planned Attacks on Iran, Citing Framework for Deal

International Desk : US President Donald Trump said he has cancelled a planned large-scale military strike on Iran, claiming that the “perimeters of a deal” have been agreed upon.

Trump made the announcement on his Truth Social platform late Saturday, a day after US media reported that Washington and Israel were preparing possible strikes on Iran’s energy infrastructure.

According to Trump, the decision followed requests from Iran and several Middle Eastern countries to delay any military action because the outlines of an agreement had been reached. He said he agreed to suspend the planned attack on the condition that the deal be finalised quickly.

Trump also claimed the agreement would lead to the “Immediate, Complete, and Total OPENING OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT” and eliminate what he described as “Iran’s nuclear threat.”

Iran had not immediately responded to Trump’s remarks. Earlier on Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told his Saudi counterpart that any attack by the United States or Israel would receive a “proportionate response.”

Meanwhile, US news outlet Axios reported that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman spoke with Trump on Saturday and urged him to call off the planned strikes and resume negotiations, citing a source familiar with the matter.

A day earlier, Trump had warned that the United States would strike Iran “very hard.”

As regional tensions continued to rise, the US Department of State on Saturday issued security alerts for American citizens in 10 countries across the Middle East, advising them to exercise increased caution and consider leaving the region.
