In a major political twist, BNP’s International Affairs Secretary Barrister Rumeen Farhana has decided to run as an independent candidate for the Brahmanbaria-2 (Sarail-Ashuganj) constituency. On Wednesday (December 24), her supporters collected the nomination form on her behalf from the local election office.
The decision comes after BNP leadership left the seat for its alliance partner, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Bangladesh, nominating Maulana Junaid Al Habib. Despite the party’s warning against independent candidacy, Rumeen Farhana stated that she is contesting following the demands of her local supporters. This move sets up a high-stakes battle between the central alliance nominee and the popular BNP leader.
