DHAKA, November 18, 2025 – The Election Commission (EC) will hold a key dialogue tomorrow. Specifically, the meeting includes twelve registered political parties. This group features the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami. The talks will cover preparation for the National Parliament election.

EC Seeks Fair Polls

The dialogue helps the EC’s extended process. Furthermore, it follows the creation of the interim government. The EC wants agreement on a framework for fair polls. Md. Ashadul Haque confirmed the schedule. He works as the EC’s Alternate Information Officer. Consequently, the nation expects the election in February 2026.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin will lead the talks. In addition, the meeting will happen at the Election Building in Agargaon. The EC already consulted with 36 other political parties. This consultation started on November 13.

Dialogue Schedule

The consultation splits into two main parts on Wednesday:

Session Time Key Parties
Morning 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, National Citizen Party (NCP), Ganosamhati Andolon, and four others.
Afternoon 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM BNP, Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP), Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP), and three others.

Why the Meeting is Important

The meeting holds major importance. For example, many groups faced restrictions under the last government. This includes the BNP and Jamaat. The EC hopes this process will ensure full political participation. Moreover, the focus will include removing bans on certain parties. Talks will also cover setting up an impartial government before the election.

The Commission expects these extensive talks will finalize party views. Therefore, this dialogue is a major step toward normalizing the political environment.
