BNP senior leader Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain stated on Thursday that the party will soon finalize nominations for the upcoming national election, prioritizing candidates who are popular and perform well in internal surveys. He noted that the party has many more nomination seekers than available seats.

Speaking after paying tribute to BNP founder Ziaur Rahman, Zahid said local and district leaders’ input, along with internal surveys, would guide the nomination decisions. Candidates who enjoy strong public support in their areas will be favored. So far, no one has received any official indication regarding nominations, he clarified, dismissing recent speculation circulating in the media and social platforms.

Zahid highlighted that BNP leaders and activists nationwide are actively engaging voters through door-to-door outreach, promoting the party’s 31-point program. He also announced that Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is expected to return “very soon” to lead the final phase of the struggle to restore democracy. Tarique Rahman has been living in exile in London since 2008.

Paying tribute to Ziaur Rahman on World Pharmacists Day, Zahid urged people to remain vigilant against conspiracies by defeated fascist forces. He emphasized BNP’s readiness to counter any local or international plots and actively participate in the national election.

Zahid reaffirmed BNP’s dedication to implementing its 31-point plan for democratic reforms, aiming to build a new Bangladesh rooted in people’s rights. Responding to reports of harassment of BNP leaders by Awami League supporters in New York, he criticized the Awami League’s history of oppression and vowed that the people would resist and reject their rule.
