Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus invited U.S. President Donald Trump to visit Bangladesh at a convenient time during a reception hosted by the President in New York on Tuesday. Prof Yunus attended the event at Trump’s invitation while the U.S. leader is in New York for the UN General Assembly (UNGA).
At the reception, Yunus exchanged pleasantries with President Trump and other world leaders, including King Felipe VI of Spain, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, and Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay. He also met U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and U.S. Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor, according to his Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder.
The event opened under the theme “Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development and Human Rights”, coinciding with key anniversaries, including the 80th UN anniversary, the 30th anniversary of the Beijing World Conference on Women, and an SDG Moment.
From 23 to 29 September, the General Assembly Hall is hosting world leaders delivering statements on peace, development, human rights, and collective action. Major sessions include summits on sustainable development financing, a Climate Summit, discussions on AI governance, global responses to noncommunicable diseases and mental health, and the situation of Rohingya Muslims and other minorities in Myanmar.
