Technical Education Key to Building a Developed Bangladesh: Milon

Online Desk : Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon on Saturday said technical education is essential for building a developed Bangladesh, stressing that there is no alternative to producing skilled human resources to meet future demands.

“The government, led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, has taken a comprehensive plan to transform the country’s huge population into human resources,” the minister said while addressing the “Commemoration of the Historic July Mass Uprising and Creative Student Award” programme at Dhaka Polytechnic Institute in the capital.

According to a press release, Dr Milon said the month of July would remain an unforgettable chapter in the nation’s history.

“The fascist Awami League wanted to destroy the country. But during July and August, our new generation, risking their lives, saved the country from that destruction. In exchange for the sacrifices of hundreds of martyrs, we have regained this Bangladesh anew,” he said.

Calling on students to move beyond conventional education, the minister said the global demand for technically skilled workers continues to grow.

“Our expatriate workers are the main source of foreign currency earnings. If they can be equipped with technical education before being sent abroad, the country’s economy will become more prosperous and stronger,” he said.

He also announced that the government plans to establish four additional engineering colleges as part of its efforts to modernise and expand technical education across the country.

Dr Milon further expressed his commitment to transforming Dhaka Government Polytechnic Institute into a model educational institution.

Addressing students, he encouraged the younger generation to strengthen their innovative capabilities and dedicate themselves to building a prosperous and developed Bangladesh.

The programme, chaired by Dhaka Polytechnic Institute Principal Md Mustafizur Rahman Khan, was attended by Reserved Women’s Seat-16 Member of Parliament Sanzida Islam Tuli, Directorate of Technical Education Director General Abul Khayer Md Akkas Ali and Bangladesh Technical Education Board Chairman Engineer Md Ruhul Amin, among others, as special guests.

Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal President Md Rakibul Islam Rakib spoke at the event as the chief discussant.

Following the programme, the minister presented honorary crests to the family members of martyr Hamidur Rahman Majumdar (Sadman), a student of Cumilla CCN Polytechnic Institute, and martyr Samid Hossain, a student of Kishoreganj Government Polytechnic Institute, who were killed during the July Mass Uprising.

He also honoured injured students of Dhaka Polytechnic Institute by presenting them with ceremonial shawls.

Earlier in the day, Dr Milon joined the Orientation-2026 programme of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia virtually as the chief guest.

Speaking at the orientation, he said, “We want to develop IU into a centre of excellence so that it can become an internationally recognised university in the future. Young people must make proper use of this valuable period of student life and prepare themselves as the architects of tomorrow’s Bangladesh.”

The orientation programme was chaired by Islamic University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A K M Matinur Rahman.
