Online Desk : A delegation comprising around 45 senior executives from 25 leading American companies is set to visit Bangladesh by the end of next week to assess investment prospects and enhance economic cooperation between the two countries.
During their visit, the delegation is expected to hold meetings with officials from various ministries and government agencies. The executives are also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, according to Prime Minister’s Office Spokesperson Mahdi Amin.
Mahdi shared the details while briefing reporters outside the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon on Saturday following a meeting between Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and visiting US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor.
According to the spokesperson, the United States expressed strong confidence in Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s leadership, noting that stability has returned to Bangladesh under his administration and that the country’s democratic process is progressing positively. He added that the US side also praised several policy initiatives introduced by the government over the past five months.
Mahdi said both sides discussed strengthening the long-standing Bangladesh-US partnership through expanded economic cooperation. The discussions focused on increasing US investment, boosting bilateral trade and creating more employment opportunities in Bangladesh.
He added that talks also explored how American companies could contribute more significantly to Bangladesh’s economic growth and what policy support the government could provide to encourage greater investment. Both countries also reviewed measures to expand exports and imports between them.
Referring to the recent revision of the US State Department’s travel advisory, Mahdi said the move reflects growing international confidence in Bangladesh and is expected to reassure American investors that the country is open to business and investment.
He emphasized that Bangladesh aims to build upon its historic ties with the United States by expanding trade, attracting additional American investment and creating more jobs through stronger economic collaboration.
“We believe the historic Bangladesh-US relationship will reach a new level. Through deeper partnership, we hope to attract more US trade and investment, creating more employment opportunities in Bangladesh,” the spokesperson said.
Mahdi also expressed hope that the United States would continue supporting Bangladesh as a trusted partner in its democratic journey, describing Washington’s confidence in Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s leadership as encouraging.
Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon, Deputy Press Secretary Zahidul Islam Rony and Assistant Press Secretary Nazmul Haque, among others, attended the briefing.
Referring to an earlier meeting between the Prime Minister and leading local business leaders, Mahdi said representatives of the business community thanked the government for policy measures implemented over the past five months to improve the country’s investment environment.
He said the Prime Minister listened to concerns raised by business leaders regarding trade, industry and investment, and discussed possible solutions, particularly in relation to energy security, gas and electricity supply, tax reforms and improving the ease of doing business.
The meeting also reviewed initiatives aimed at attracting more investment to economic zones and industrial clusters by simplifying existing procedures and removing existing bottlenecks.
Mahdi said the Prime Minister made an immediate decision to instruct the relevant authorities to ensure 24-hour operations at the country’s ports, including Chattogram Port and Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, to facilitate smoother import and export activities.
“The Prime Minister directed the relevant authorities to ensure round-the-clock services at Bangladesh’s ports so that import and export activities can be carried out more efficiently,” he said.
Mahdi added that the government’s goal is to generate more employment by maintaining a business-friendly and investment-friendly environment through continued policy reforms and close cooperation with the private sector.
He described the upcoming visit by the US business delegation as a significant step toward increasing American investment in Bangladesh and further strengthening bilateral economic cooperation.
